This course provides an overview of the major flight sciences. It encompasses topics such as basic aerodynamics, elementary aircraft performance, introductory airplane stability and control, and aerospace propulsion. The course combines technical and historical aspects and represents an introduction to aeronautical engineering. The course equips the students with a broad view of flight sciences by combining a rigorous theoretical approach with practical applications. By concluding this course, students will be able to perform preliminary airfoil and wing aerodynamic calculations, estimate an airplane’s performance, analyze and discuss its stability and control characteristics, and estimate powerplant data.
