PCP127 – Quantum Computing (Computação Quântica)

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of quantum computing and quantum computers. Unlike classical computing, quantum computing relies on quantum mechanical phenomena present in atoms, photons, and subatomic particles to process information in fundamentally different ways. Through concepts such as superposition, interference, entanglement, and quantum measurement, quantum computers are capable of solving certain classes of problems far more efficiently than classical computers.

The course is designed for students interested in understanding the principles, potential, and limitations of quantum computation. Students will learn the foundations of quantum information, qubits and quantum states, quantum gates and circuits, as well as the differences between classical and quantum computation.

Additional topics include randomness, paradoxes of quantum mechanics, the No-Cloning Theorem, multi-qubit systems, noise in quantum circuits, quantum teleportation, and introductory quantum algorithms such as Deutsch-Jozsa and Grover’s algorithm. Practical activities may also include the use of cloud-based quantum computing platforms such as IBM Quantum Cloud.
