Contemporary Questions Concerning Education and Culture is an academic discipline offered to all the undergraduate students at the
Pontifical Catholic University of Parana (Curitiba campus). This discipline explores the impasses in Brazilian and global Education regarding
contemporary cultural issues. Since every construction of human knowledge is embedded in a historical and cultural context, the understanding
of such context is essential for the academic experience to be recognized as free from neutrality, which means that it can be or not directed
towards the appreciation, respect and preservation of all human cultures. Topics to be analysed include: the phenomenon of culture as a
human possibility; the diasporas and the cultural hybridism; globalisation and Education; epistemicide and the devaluing of cultural identities;
multicultural education; community and Education; Education policy and systems; adult learning; gender and race differences; social projects
and education; cultural exchange; technology and the praxis of teaching-learning; art and cultural heritage. Upon completion, students are
expected to develop professional practices linked to the knowledge of the people and the community among which they find themselves.
Furthermore, they will also be able to work through transdisciplinary action, opening itself to experiences that take into account the diversity of
human cultures, recovering the relevance and importance of each one of them in the history of humanity in general.
