Interdisciplinary, project-based course developed in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder, engaging students from engineering, IT and architecture in the design, prototyping, and application of low-cost environmental sensors. Through a PBL/PjPBL approach, students identify real-world challenges related to air and water quality monitoring, design and build sensor systems for data acquisition, and interpret environmental data to support sustainable decision-making.
In the final phase, students apply their knowledge in community outreach projects, mentoring high school students to create their own environmental monitoring initiatives – fostering awareness, creativity, and identity with engineering and environmental sciences.
The course integrates concepts of digital instrumentation, usability, environmental data analytics, and science communication, bridging technology, sustainability, and education.
